Optimal image sizes
The ideal image size for engineering projects depends on its use case, but the goal is to balance quality and performance. Here are our common recommendations:
Desktop images
- Dimensions: 2560×1440 (16:9)
- Format: WebP, JPEG (compressed)
- File size: Under 200kb (ideally 100kb)
Mobile images
Some projects will require specific images created for mobile devices, in a vertical format.
- Dimensions: 1080×1920 (9:16)
- Format: WebP, JPEG (compressed)
- File size: Under 100kb
Icons
- Format: SVG for vector, PNG
- File size: Under 20kb
Open Graph images
OG images for social sharing have specific dimensions and requirements. Here our our recommendations:
- Size: 1200×630 (1.91:1)
- Format: JPEG
- File size: Under 500kb
- Center content: platforms may crop images differently
- If text is needed, bold it: avoid small details that may be lost in previews when images are small
- Branding: if you use logos or overlays, keep them simple and clear
To testing images, use:
- Facebook: Sharing Debugger
- Twitter (X): Card Validator
- LinkedIn: Post Inspector
