Image specifications for websites

Optimal image sizes

The ideal image size for engineering projects depends on its use case, but the goal is to balance quality and performance. Here are our common recommendations:

Desktop images

  • Dimensions: 2560×1440 (16:9)
  • Format: WebP, JPEG (compressed)
  • File size: Under 200kb (ideally 100kb)

Mobile images

Some projects will require specific images created for mobile devices, in a vertical format.

  • Dimensions: 1080×1920 (9:16)
  • Format: WebP, JPEG (compressed)
  • File size: Under 100kb

Icons

  • Format: SVG for vector, PNG
  • File size: Under 20kb

Open Graph images

OG images for social sharing have specific dimensions and requirements. Here our our recommendations:

  • Size: 1200×630 (1.91:1)
  • Format: JPEG
  • File size: Under 500kb
  • Center content: platforms may crop images differently
  • If text is needed, bold it: avoid small details that may be lost in previews when images are small
  • Branding: if you use logos or overlays, keep them simple and clear
